Amy Powers... Always Inspires

Amy Powers has long been a pioneer in the blogging and online community. Hers was one of the first blogs I read, and one of the first online shops that I frequently visited... way back in the day. For several years now, Amy has been publishing an online magazine called Inspired Ideas which shouldn't be missed. She also has a blog called 39 Squares in which she did a stitch-along of the incredible piece above. And now, lucky for us, she's doing an online workshop, The Happy Go Lucky Stitchalong. Methinks you must go check it out.

A great idea for kid's stitching projects (or your own)...

Use pics from their coloring books, like Tracey and her daughter did with this Orange Blossom coloring book design. Just trace on the window or using a light box!

Lucky Jackson... Lucky Us!

I'm nothing if not dramatic, as you probably know by now. But you will join the drama club when you see this work. Don't say you won't.

See!? You squealed with delight, didn't you?

My first reaction upon happening across Lucky Jackson's work and 365luckydays: "Shut. Up." (Say that in a high pitched squeal of a voice... go ahead. Try it.)

And then... "Holy crap. No Way." (Truth told I was more dramatic in my choice of language, but kids read this.)

Then... "O.M.G. this is for reals! These are really hand stitched!" (By now I'm jumping up and down in my seat because I can't wait to show you.)

This is what Lucky Jackson creates with floss and a needle... For serious.

I love the vintage imagry, the soft backgrounds, the multi-media flair. It all speaks to me. And the simple fact of it's originality sorta pushes me over the edge.

Lucky has been creating a piece of art a day as part of her 365 Lucky Days project... and now we are about to reap the rewards.

She had been planning on keeping these pieces as part of a collection, but has instead decided to sell some of these babies. On Monday, December 5 at noon EST, they will be in her Etsy shop.

I know. I shouldn't have told you. Now I'll have to knock you over in line and possibly trample you when we get there. That's right... dramatic + pushy. Such a charming combination.

 

Stitch Inspiration

Over at My Bricole, Deedrie came up with a whopper of an awesome idea. She took a photo of her house, changed it to black and white in photoshop, printed it out on Transfer-Eeze, and stitched it to fabric to make a pillow. A totally awesome idea! Love the bullion knots for grass! Now, where do I get a house like this?

Simone made this mug rug up right quick with Natalie's new free pattern. It's a great example of how to incorporate your embroidery in projects! 

A feature on Karen Ruane's (Contemporary Embroidery) work is coming in October. I adore her white on white work!

The depth of this work from Hand Knitted Things is amazing...

And here's another incredible example of tightly packed design creating gorgeous depth from Dozy Dotes...
