I love Charlotte Lyons    

Way back when in another life, I was big into mixed media art and collage. One of my biggest inspirations was Charlotte Lyons. I still oooh and ahhh when I see her work, and these days, most especially, I'm crazy about her embroidery. It's especially awesome that she makes these pre-printed pieces for us to stitch ourselves. I'm just smitten.

Great Stitching Ideas: Gettting Organized

If you are like me you have lumpy little piles of tangled embroidery flosses which were the left overs of separated strands that you meant to use, but didn't know how to organize.

Paloma has an awesome solution... recycle post cards by punching a hole in the side and stringing the bits through. 

 

Children Stitching = Instant Joy

It always warms my heart to see kids stitching. This peaceful photo tweeted by Jodi (@sewfearless on twitter) made me grin ear to ear. 

Want to get your kids stitching too? Teach them a simple stitch: back stitch or running stitch. Trace their drawings on fabric and let 'em go! 

Heed Jodi's warning though: your embroidery supplies will be taken over by the littles. (ummm... a trip to the craft store for some cheapy extras might be in order)

I highly recommend you do it before they are teenagers and think all you do is totally uncool.

Not that I know any teenagers like that. Hrrrrmmmpppffff.

Good morning! Found some good stuff this am I wanted to share with you. Plus, just a reminder, it's that time of the month again. No. Not *that* time of the month. The time where we get the free Aurifil Designer of the Month block, silly! Time to go check that out!

I also recommend checking this link from Wild Olive out for a tutorial on using your computer screen as a light box. Like. 

And since it's the Queen's Diamond Jubilee... here's a cute blog/shop with loads of samplers including this one.

Additionally, Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery has an adorable new PDF pattern out... Their patterns always make me smile.

I actually did stitch while I was away... really. I did.

I may have mentioned that I love crazy quilting. For the car ride from Phoenix, AZ to Kansas City, MO I did do some stitching... You can get really creative in stitch combining for crazy quilting. I'd love to see what you do with your crazy quilt stitches. Here are a few of mine done in the car. 

In this photo, horizontally, I did a fly stitch shadowed by a lazy daisy. Vertically, I randomly curved a chain stitch and then added bullion knots. Likely, I'll add more to that line.

In this photo, I did a stem stitch with lazy daisies at each end and then I added French knots.You can see where I've marked this with a frixion pen to keep my stitches even. I eyeballed the spacing between.
