Haute Couture Embroidery: Remembering Francois Lesage
(Chanel Couture Spring Summer 2011)
I've just read this article in the New York times about the passing of the great Francois Lesage. Lesage was the master embroidery artist behind much of the haute couture fashion industry working hand in hand with designers such as Chanel and Lacroix. His was the highest quality of embroidery.
To keep the art of fine couture embroidery continuing, Lesage was a huge supporter of young couture designers, even doing work for up and comers free of charge according to this video on YouTube.
For more about Lesage, check out this article from Threads Magazine.
The place to learn couture embroidery is at the Lesage school in Paris which (amazingly) is accessible to all, both beginners and experts.
