A giveaway: Courtesy of F+W Media... Stitch with Love
The winner is... Kris #68
The nice folks at F&W saw my post about Stitch with Love, and thought you might like to win a copy! So very nice! I really do love this book, and I know you will enjoy it too.
I'll pick a winner using random.org next Friday the 18th of November. Just comment on this post. This giveaway is open to US readers only. Please do not enter if you are outside the United States (my apologies... FCC rules apparently).
I recently came across the work of Cathy Gaubert...I'm not sure where I've been. Under a rock? Cathy's work instantly appealed to me. Her designs have a truly unique flair that makes my heart sing. The above embroidery design in particular makes me swoon... you'll probably note my love for chandeliers and birds... combined here! Cathy not only has an Etsy shop that currently features adorable embroidery designs, but she also has a popular blog and a book coming out, Pretty in Patchwork Doll Quilts, November 1... it is filled with fabulous designers who made fabulous quilts! Yes, I'm about to break my book diet yet again. I have a good mind to pre-order it. I know. I have a serious issue. It's almost as bad as the very tiny fabric purchasing issue I may or may not have. And, um... embroidery floss.
Interested in teaching your kids to stitch? When my girls were in kindergarten their teachers did a little rainbow stitchery on burlap with huge needles. The kids all learned the backstitch. It's great for little one's hand eye coordination and as we all can agree, a great hobby to take with you for life.
I was curious to see what embroidery books, kits, etc might be on the market. I haven't been able to test these, but I can tell you first hand that we've used a couple Alex craft kits in our house and they are always wonderful. Here's what I found:
I've been combing eBay and used book stores for vintage books on embroidery... we are not inspired by Grandma just in name here, by golly. This Better Homes and Garden's Embroidery book was published in 1978... not so old... I'm looking for older. I highly recommend these old books. Just don't mess with out-bidding me on eBay for 'em.
