In this video you will learn to do the chain stitch. It is a great stitch for outlining, for creating stems and I even like it as an open lacy sort of fill. Please refer to the How to Start Your Stitching video to learn how to start stitching without a knot on the back. To end your stitches for the chain stitch, just take 2 small stitches on the outside of the loop. You can then weave the tail into the back of the work.
